The sinuous arabesques and onion domes on this stylish Copeland cup and saucer show the increasing influence of Islamic art in Britain from the 1840s. Both the cup and saucer are slightly quatrefoiled and are decorated in orange enamel and gilt. The bases bear a green Copeland backstamp and a painted pattern number, 8261, that dates from around 1849.
