Date: Circa 1880
Period: Late Victorian
Maker: T.C. Brown-Westhead, Moore & Co.
This Brown-Westhead, Moore tea and coffee trio is a blue version of the ‘Bamboo’ shape. The bamboo-shaped handle on the tea and coffee cups, the moulded bamboo stalks around the well of the saucer, and the embossed bamboo leaves are all enamelled dark cobalt blue.
The bases bear a painted pattern number and a design registration lozenge. The design code is for 6th October 1873, when Brown-Westhead, Moore registered its Bamboo shape. The blue pattern, C9202, was introduced around 1880.
We are also offering another version of the Bamboo shape, in different colours.
Condition Perfect/mint. In the bottom of the teacup there is an impurity in the glaze but this occurred during manufacture. There are a few odd spots of blue where the cobalt has dripped.
