The Brown-Westhead, Moore cup and saucer have brightly coloured flaming torches inside gold panels, set against a pale turquoise-blue border that imitates the famous bleu céleste of Sèvres. The opulence is tastefully balanced against the pure white of the porcelain.
A similar version, of which we also have examples, has enamel flowers within oval gold panels in a turquoise border.
The pattern number C4291 is painted on the bases. The pattern was introduced around 1869.
Condition The cup is in excellent condition. The saucer has some rubbing to the comb-tooth gilt band around the central well (see photographs) and some very slight abrasions only visable on close inspection.
