Period: Mid-Victorian
Maker: Coalport Porcelain Works (John Rose & Co.)
This mid-Victorian slop bowl by Coalport is finely made. Individual flower panels are gently curved outwards and framed by gilt relief bands. On buttermilk ground in between are embossed rosettes with gilt accents; at the top, bunches of leaves or petals and chains of dots are also embossed and gilded. Above the sprays of hand-coloured flowers are garlands of gilt ferns. A further spray is found in the bottom of the bowl.
The pattern number, 6/761, is painted in tiny script on the base of the bowl. Coalport introduced the pattern around 1858.
Condition Almost mint. Minuscule rubbing of gilding on rim edge but no other sign of wear. No damage, repair or crazing.
