Maker: Royal Porcelain Factory (Kongelige Porcelænsfabrik)
This delightful Copenhagen Royal Porcelain sucrier is hand-painted with a pattern called ‘grass and fantasy butterflies’ and ‘broken twigs and green leaves,’ according to Steen Nottelmann, former curator of the Royal Copenhagen Museum. There are also small enamelled flower groups, and on the lid, a brown beetle. The finial is a finely moulded pink rose with green stem and leaves. The gilt-edged entwined handles have splayed foliate terminals.
In 1987, the Royal Porcelain Factory (Kongelige Porcelænsfabrik) merged with its main rival, Bing & Grøndahl, and the new factory was styled Royal Copenhagen.
