This Derby demitasse and saucer exude elegance and sophistication. They dazzle through an inventive contrast of hand-painted pink roses against a background of vertical gilt lines; a century-old tradition of naturalistic painting combined with the confident geometry of the new Jazz Age and Art Deco.
The bases are painted with the monogram of William Larcombe, sole proprietor of the King Street Factory in Derby from 1915-17. Above Larcombe’s monogram is the factory mark of a crown, crossed swords, two sets of three dots and ‘D’ for Derby. ‘S’ and ‘H’ stand for Sampson Hancock, who was sole proprietor from 1866 until his death in 1895. The company continued to trade under his name after 1895.

Condition Almost perfect. A couple of tiny, pin-prick losses to gilding on the cup.
