Period: Regency
Maker: H&R Daniel
This pretty, circa 1825 dessert plate by H&R Daniel is finely painted with a spray of flowers and leaves. The lobed rim of the pink-ground border has three moulded shells and acanthus leaves, with pierced holes either side, set between wavy gadrooning.
The plate is unmarked but the shape conforms to a shell variation of Daniel’s ‘Second Gadroon.’ The same shape, but with a blue border and flowers painted against a distant landscape, is Plate 19 in Michael Berthoud’s book, H. & R. Daniel, 1822-1846.
Condition Fair. Surface scratching, chiefly to pink ground, and minor gilt rubbing. Chip to bottom rim (stand).
