Decorative period: Regency
Maker: John Rose & Co. (Coalport Porcelain Works)
This stylish John Rose-Coalport coffee from around 1820 cleverly contrasts English ‘Imari’ and neoclassical motifs. A continuous English Imari-style pattern of stylised flowers and leaves encircles the bottom half of the can, in an Imari palette of dark blue, iron red, plight green and gold. The top half has Imari panels that alternate with a formal neoclassical design of gilt fronds around a gilt central diamond, on a dark-blue ground.
The pattern number, 984, is painted in large gilt script on the base.
Condition Some rubbing to gilt bands along top and bottom rims, and gilt handle. Otherwise very good, with no damage or restoration.
