This large tea plate by John & William Ridgway from around 1814 is boldly decorated. The central painting shows flowers spilling out of a gilt basket on a pale pink-coloured ground. The border has two large stylised conches painted in pale blue, buttermilk and gilding, and two gilt and buttermilk nautilus shells. In between is seaweed on a cobalt-blue ground.
We are also listing several other items from the same tea set.
The pattern number 2/1070 is painted on the back. The tea ware pattern probably dates from the very beginning of the John and William Ridgway partnership at Cauldon Place. Their matching pattern in dessert wares is number 1110.
CONDITION Light gilt rubbing and utensil scratching, mainly to centre. Small chip to foot rim. Otherwise excellent.
