Period: Regency
Pattern number: 2/1070
This teapot stand by John & William Ridgway from around 1814 is boldly decorated with flowers and seashells. The central painting shows flowers spilling out of a gilt basket on a blush-pink ground. The border has two large stylised conches painted in pale blue, buttermilk and gilding, and two gilt and buttermilk nautilus shells. In between is seaweed on a cobalt-blue ground.
We are also listing several other items from the same tea set. The teapot stand is of the same general size and shape as the small tea plates but has a deeper, sturdier foot rim with a rounded edge.
The pattern number 2/1070 is painted on the back. The tea ware pattern probably dates from the very beginning of the John and William Ridgway partnership at Cauldon Place. Their matching pattern in dessert wares is number 1110.
CONDITION Gilding has partly rubbed from the wavy band around the outer rim. There are also other areas of gilt rubbing and surface scratching, but no cracks, hairlines or repairs.
