Period: Late Victorian
Maker: Minton
A charming late Victorian dessert plate by Minton. The botanical decoration, which is hand-painted inside printed outlines, is of wild daisy and speedwell. A beetle is climbing one of the daisy stems and a moth is poised to land on the speedwell.
The back of the plate is fully marked. As customary with Minton from 1842 onwards, there are three impressed cyphers: the month letter, the potter’s mark, and the year cypher. The two date marks are for April 1879. There is also a painted pattern number, B224.
Condition Some utensil scratching to the glaze, visible only on close inspection. Otherwise, perfect.
