Maker: Minton
Period: Early Victorian
This early Victorian teacup and saucer by Minton has a simplicity and restraint that harks back to earlier eras. Beneath a Meissen-type, osier-moulded border are transfer-printed flower sprays in the style of delicate green camaïeu. The cup has an elegant, rounded profile.
The base of the saucer bears the printed mark of glass and china retailer John Allsup of 16 St. Paul’s Churchyard, in the City of London (the ‘1’ in ’16’ has rubbed off the mark). The building that contained Allsup’s shop has long since disappeared. Both cup and saucer have the hand-painted Minton pattern number, N4286, which dates from around 1840.
Condition Excellent. The surface has some surface glaze abrasions, visible only on close inspection.
