A rare and complex Coalport cup and saucer from around 1859.
The gilt-framed panels contain delicate paintings of flowering heather, some of them imaginatively coloured. The panels are formed from gently ribbed spiral flutes in the porcelain. Between these wide spiralling flutes are ‘necklaces’ of moulded turquoise cabuchons.
The Coalport pattern number, 7/43, is painted in tiny gilt numerals on the base of the cup, and (partly rubbed) on the bottom of the saucer. The pattern was introduced circa 1859.
CONDITION Minor gilt rubbing; otherwise excellent.
