Period: Regency
Maker: Josiah Spode
This is a fine example of Spode’s rare 494 pattern introduced in 1803, with intricate and sinuous scrollwork. The border of the saucer and the outside of the Bute-shape teacup are delicately painted in polychrome enamel with interweaving ribbons, acanthus and laurel. The saucer has two flaming torches and two diamonds containing gilt arrows. The scrollwork is less compact on the cup and there is only one burning torch. Unmarked.
Condition Very good/excellent.The cup is in excellent condition, with only a couple of surface scratches. The saucer has some light gilt rubbing on the rim, otherwise fine.
