Period: Regency
Maker: Josiah Spode
These delightful four creamware plates made by Spode between 1815 and 1833 have a simple elegance and are finely potted. Hand-pressed from a mould, the borders are a chain of open arches with a basket-weave pattern.
The back of each plate is impressed with ‘SPODE’ and ‘4’. We can identify the factory mark to the period from about 1815 to 1833 by the serifs on the capital ‘S’. The impressed number identifies the workman and his team.
