Period: Late Regency
Maker: Josiah Spode
This Spode plate is painted in enamels with a beautiful central spray of flowers in soft pink, orange, purple, blue and green. The mellow colours are more typical of Sèvres than of English flower painting on porcelain, while the pink rose shows the pervasive influence of William Billingsley. The border is embossed with simple flowers heads, with three small painted sprays in between. Spode called the shape ‘Flower Embossed.’ The pattern number, 3127, together with SPODE, are painted with a fine brush on the back.
Condition Almost perfect – few minor scratches to central painting, only visible on close-up inspection.
