A unique pair of Japanese Meiji-era (1868-1912) covered bowls, hand-painted in underglaze blue with chrysanthemums and peonies, foliage and a sparrow in flight, the covers surmounted by karashishi (foo dog) finials.
One cover is slightly domed, the other has a flat top.
Condition One of the covers has a repaired side crack and adjacent rim chip. No other damage.
